In the poem "My Last Duchess" by Robert Browning a man is describing the portrait of this women. Not only is he describing her physical appearence but is also telling the reader a story of how this women really was in terms of personality. I was able to understand the first page of this poem but kind of got confused in the second page because I wasnt sure what other personalities the author was describing. Overall, i though this poem was interesting and unique because it comes with an image (which made it easier to understand) and is directly describing it.

My apologies for the deleted comment, I was trying to sign in, but didn't know I already had, so the post was just nonsense I had to enter in the field so I could sign in.

Anyways, Let's Begin!

The poem "My Last Duchess" was an immediate standout to me because it started out with a picture. That immediately put an image in my mind that helped me stay focused throughout the poem. I noticed that primarily on the 2nd page, the dialect is very Old English.

There is a tone prescence of wistfullness, as the author misses his love. The imagery used to depict the relationship between him and the "duchess" is apparent enough to show the author's devotion to her. I think that this could be contrasted from the spring poems in the sense that in "The Spring," both of the female lovers were imprisioned emotionally, while in this poem, the female love is literally imprisioned in the realm of the dead.

"My last duchess" by Robert Browning was truely a very confusing poem for me. Other then that I found it intrigeing, the way this phycatic man descibes his former wife. As soon as you begin reading this passage you feel sort of an ominous tone coming from the narrater, which is the husband of this lady in the portrait. The reason why I say ominouse is do to the first three lines. Which says " That's my last Duchess painted on the wall, looking as if she were alive. I call That piece a wonder, now:". "Now" doesn't that sound a litte creepy. When you are reading further into the passage you can tell that this guy thinks highly of himself. One quote that supports this is when he says "since none puts by the curtain I have drawn for you , but I". One may think that what I'm writing has no real point to it but the truth is, that its leading to the fact that this man was such a mad man. Who do to jealosy and a supority complex he kills his last duchess. I think the authors use of the ryming cupplet literary tecnique brings more meaning to the passage about him killing his wife.

"My Last Dutchess" by Robert Browning is a poem that I think was poem written for the ladies back in the day when the men ruled them. Throught the poem the author uses alot of commanding words to give off a strong tone of male dominance. For example in lines 9-10 he says, "since none puts by the curtain I have drawn for you, but I." Which bassically says that no one is aloud to touch her besides him. He also shows dominace in this line, "Much the same smile? This gree; I gave commands; Then all smiles stopped together. There she stands." To me that says that he owns and her and she is forced to do whatever he asks and obey him. In the poem it is almost the same thind that goes on in the world today. Females get controlled by male, and then they end up dieing because they dont want to leave. But other than my weird opinions I think it was a really good poem, the authors diction in certain parts is a bit confussing but its not hard to understand it. On the second page of the poem the author goes through a tone shift. Overall I think that this was a really well written poem.
