1.
mp: All men are mortal
min p: Socrates was a man
conclusion: Therefore,

Is this syllogism true or false? Explain.

- This syllogism is false becasue if it's turned around it would be saying that socrates was a man therefore all men are mortal and thats not what the original statement is saying.

2.
mp: All weeds are plants
mp: The flower is a plant
con: Therefore, all weeds are flowers

Is this syllogism true or false? Explain.

- This syllogism is False becauase according to the original conclusion statement it's saying that all weeds are flowers and if you go back to the premise it is something alittle different. It is saying that al weeds are plants therefore the flower is a plant not a all weeds are flowers.

3.
mp all terriers are dogs
min pr all dogs are mammals
con Therefore, all mammals are dogs

Is this syllogism true or false explain?

- This syllogism is true because the conclusion statement is true which ever way it being phrased.

1, mp: All men are mortal
min p: Socrates was a man
conclusion: Therefore,...Socrates was a mortal.

I think this is true because its saying all men are mortal and Socrates was a man so he was mortal.

men=mortal
Socrates=man
Socrates=mortal

2, mp: All weeds are plants
mp: The flower is a plant
con: Therefore, all weeds are flowers

weeds=plants
flower=plant
weeds≠flowers

plants is plural which means more than one. the flower is a plant. but not all weeds are flowers all weeds are plants

3, mp all terriers are dogs
min pr all dogs are mammals
con Therefore, all mammals are dogs

terriers=dogs
dogs=mammals
mammals=dogs

true but whats confusing is why the mp?

1.mp: All men are mortal
min p: Socrates was a man
conclusion: Therefore,

I believe this syllogism is true. Stating that because Socrates was a man, he and all men are mortals.

2.mp: All weeds are plants
mp: The flower is a plant
con: Therefore, all weeds are flowers

This syllogism is clearly false. It states that all weeds are plants. It also states that a flower is a plant. However, flower and weeds have no association. Therefore, all weeds are NOT flowers. (Such a horrible place the world would be if this were true)

3.mp all terriers are dogs
min pr all dogs are mammals
con Therefore, all mammals are dogs

Similar to the 1st syllogism. basically stating that all terriers are dog..followed by all dogs(including terriers) are mammals. Therefore this syllogism is true!

Ok Lauren hope I made you proud

Third time's the charm! It's time to put this to rest.

Syllogism Attempt the Third

1.
mp: All men are mortal
min p: Socrates was a man
conclusion: Therefore,

Is this syllogism true or false? Explain.

2.
mp: All weeds are plants
mp: The flower is a plant
con: Therefore, all weeds are flowers

Is this syllogism true or false? Explain.
--

3.
mp all terriers are dogs
min pr all dogs are mammals
con Therefore, all mammals are dogs

Is this syllogism true or false explain?
------------------------------------------------------

1) This syllogism is true. The reason being is that if all men are mortal, and Socrates was a man, then he had to be mortal. The Major premise is very clear in this sense, and allows no flexibility/interpretation.

2) This syllogism is clearly false. It starts by saying all weeds are plants, then saying the flower is a plant. That doesn't equate to all weeds being flowers because there are other kinds of plants other than flowers. Flowers don't necessarily have to be weeds, in this sense.

3) This syllogism is false as well. We as humans are mammals, and we certainly arent dogs.

Hope I got it this time. ~K*.

1.
mp: All men are mortal
min p: Socrates was a man
conclusion: Therefore,

This syllogism is true because it is saying that Socrates was a mortal. If all men are mortal and Socrates was a man, then he is obviously mortal.

2.
mp: All weeds are plants
min p: The flower is a plant
con: Therefore, all weeds are flowers

This syllogism is false because not all weeds are flowers. A flower is a type of plant, it is not "plants" in general.

3.
mp: all terriers are dogs
min p: all dogs are mammals
con: Therefore, all mammals are dogs

This syllogism is completely false.
All terriers are dogs and all dogs may be mammals but all mammals are not dogs. It's similar to saying all humans are dogs.
