Reflection: What kind of writer am I?

It is time to look at yourself in the mirror...well, sort of. Look at your writing, and the rubric we use in class to evaluate your writing. What are your strengths? Do you have a strong voice when you write? Does your personality come through on the paper? Or, in your quest to sound professional, are you sounding dry and formal? Do your sentences have strong verbs or do you find yourself using the passive voice too often? Do you structure your essay so that your argument grows ever more forceful, like a piece of music, reaching a crescendo and then resolving sweetly at the end? Or does it all sound the same? How are your conclusions? Your introductions? Are your sentences varied or are they all the identical length? Do you pause for effect? Make use of rhetorical questions? How often do you include descriptive adjectives and other modifiers---to make the words come alive on the page? What are your weaknesses? How is your grammar? Where would you like to see yourself go next (as a writer)? What do you have to do to get there?

Since I've moved into the A.P. class, I found it more challenging to write an essay with an outline and to be honest I think that if I didnt have an outline for the essay's that we have written so far I wouldnt have done as well as I have on the essays.
When it comes to writting essays I found out that my greatest strengths are in the the introduction and that im really great at writing a hook for the essays.
In most of my writings my personality is and feelings are incorporated in my writing but in some situation when I rush though or feel like thers too much pressure on me to write an essay I sometimes do too much editing and leave my personality or feelings out of it. there have been instances where something that i've written just sound dead and dry but im working on it.
In my essays I try to make sure things are in a logic order that flows smoothly but somewhere in the mix I tend to often metion things and don't complete my thought on it. When it comes to my conclusion I believe I have a lot more work to do to get the transition paragraphs moving smoothly.
In my writing I tend to use verbs and adjectives often to give a detail descrption of what I am talking about when possible and as for the length of my sentences I think I can improve a bit more on that.
Grammar is still sort of an issue for me because i tend to leave out comma's every now and then. I think my grammar is the main thing that I need to work on more often along with my conclusion, just to keep it moving smoothly and actually making sense.

Well my writing I've felt that (from when I started) improved by a bit. Yes I know I have countless errors in my essay but I can improve that. Just wondering how in gods name I got a 86 on my regents but I got it. Seemed more simpler than what I have to do now. So much information and yet so little time. My voice seems to be off to. Like in some essays I don't really get my message thought to people as I want it to come. Sometimes I feel that I have enough and I can stop it right there but I remember I forgot to put this in or that in and whats missing really helps display my message I want to show. I'm trying to jot down little notes for me to come back to when I'm writing essays. So when I'm writing I can remember to state a good thesis or stay in present tense or to provide a clear explanation of what I mean. Another thing I need to work on its "thing". Sorry Lauren but its kind of a really bad habit for me and I know in college they aren't going to take that so i should really start taking that into consideration. Right now i just feel like my essays are shattered ideas that don't really hold a real form but now I'm trying to bring these ideas together. After that's all said and done I think I can really have at least some progress in my writing from this class (even if I do get bad grades). After I do that I would really want to progress more and more into my writing for college purposes and for any other things that would give me a competitive advantage but other than that maybe some free writing for myself and friends to see.

Last marking period was not a good marking period for me. Mostly because i didn't try. To be truthful i truly dislike essay writing, but i know that it is very helpful to develop skills in english writing. I think that if i give it a chance i might be much better than i believe i am in writing essays. The problem with me is that i have good ideas but i really don't know how to put them on paper, when it comes to putting my ideas down i can't find the way to get it right.
Writing AP essays is a bit discouraging and scary, but i think if i try harder i would be okay.
